Piazolla Two Pieces for Piano and Chamber Orchestra
Haydn Trumpet Concerto in E-Flat Major
—
Efrain Oscher Rapsodia Latina (for trumpet and chamber orchestra)
Haydn Symphony No. 97 in C Major
Lucienne Renaudin Vary trumpet / director
Tonight, we celebrate French ‘trumpet sensation’ Lucienne Renaudin Vary. We’ll hear jubilant brass in South American composer Efrain Oscher’s Rapsodia Latina for Trumpet and Chamber Orchestra, in perfect contrast to Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E Flat Major – surely the most famous piece for trumpet ever written? Piazzolla’s Three Pieces for Piano and Chamber Orchestra, with its Latin-American themes and dance-infused rhythms, is nestled alongside Haydn’s Symphony No. 97 (fondly nicknamed ‘trumpets and timps’) We continue the transatlantic link from the opening concert of the Season but with a jazz and dance-infused feel alongside the traditional classics. You might find it impossible not to tap your feet to the beat.
