Debussy Clair de Lune
Glazunov Concerto in E-Flat Major for Saxophone and String Orchestra
—
Dani Howard Concerto for Saxophone (World Premiere)
Shostakovich Symphony No. 9
Jess Gillam saxophone
Christopher Warren-Green conductor
Here is an incredible opportunity to experience the incomparable Jess Gillam perform live (“A true inspiration… she frankly rocks” – Huffington Post), in both Glazunov’s Concerto for Saxophone, and a world-first performance of Dani Howard’s Saxophone Concerto. This is a central part of Dani’s LCO Composer in Residence year, and what a soloist to write for! Debussy’s Clair de Lune offers a moment of calm amongst an exciting evening of energy, and we end with Shostakovich’s eclectic 9th Symphony – a short but brilliant piece taking us through every human emotion.
“I’d happily listen to the lyrical and liquid music-making of this perky 22-year-old under any social conditions. She really is a wonder…She’s a live wire; she directly communicates.”
