Music Junction at the V&A

LCO’s outreach programme project, Music Junction, has had a rather exciting couple of weeks!

The project in Harrow is generously supported by John Lyon’s Charity. We were so thrilled when they asked us to be involved in their 30th Birthday Gala at the V&A, to showcase some of the work that they support with young people.

Our mentors from John Lyon School had been busy at work, practicing their presentation and performance skills when putting together ‘Join the Junction.’ This is the start of our musical journey with our mentee schools. In these performances, pupils see and hear classical music being performed live, often for the first time. They also get the chance to listen to one of the instruments that we offer to participants on the course.

We decided to showcase Join the Junction at JLC Gala.

The theme was space! And so, we performed Space Odyssey, Claire de Lune and Host’s Mars, arranged by composer Bernard Hughes.

Outreach Artistic Director Rosemary Warren-Green spoke about the programme and gave the audience ownership of part of the performance. She did this by asking them to perform on their wine glass to Clare de Lune!

A mentor student, Patrick, also spoke wonderfully about the skills and experiences he has gained being on the programme.

Our continued thanks go to John Lyon’s Charity for giving us a platform to showcase our work and the JLS pupils an opportunity to perform in an amazing venue and for such a lovely occasion!

Happy birthday John Lyon’s Charity!
