LCO feature on David Mellor’s Classic FM Show
On Sunday 29th May, David Mellor featured an hour long showcase of LCO recordings in his weekly Sunday evening slot on Classic FM.
Opening with the overture to Rossini’s The Silken Ladder, recorded by LCO under Music Director Christopher Warren-Green for Signum Classics in 2010, the presenter then showcased a veritable collection of some of LCO’s most celebrated performances. From LCO’s first release on Signum, recorded in 2009, listeners were treated to the first movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8, Op.93, and the second movement of Mozart’s Piano Concert No.12, recorded with the acclaimed Singapore-born soloist, Melvyn Tan.
Two movements from Haydn symphonies followed, the second from Symphony No.94 and the finale of Symphony No.45, chosen from an earlier release by Warren-Green and the orchestra on Virgin Classics in the 1990s, a record that clearly still stands the test of time today!
To complete the segment, Mellor chose Rossini’s famous aria, Porgi Amor, recorded in 2010 with an “exquisite balance of grace and intensity” by Susan Gritton and LCO (The Independent), and notably recently performed by Christopher Warren-Green and LCO to a packed Cadogan Hall in April 2016 with leading British soloist Lucy Crowe.

The presenter also recently named LCO’s Music Junction Showcase at Cadogan Hall as ‘Concert Of The Week’ (6/5/16) in the Mail on Sunday, in an article that you can read here. (Scroll down for LCO’s segment.)
