LCO and Barnardo’s Music Junction

LCO’s 2010-11 season marks the launch of the first two LCO and Barnardo’s Music Junction projects led by Tim Steiner, taking place in Tonbridge and Reading.
LCO has worked in partnership with the national children’s charity Barnardo’s to develop Music Junction, an education project which will create real opportunities for children and young people supported by Barnardo’s to engage in music. Music Junction aims to inspire young people and raise their aspirations, bringing together young people from different schools and backgrounds to take part in exciting musical activities.
In 2010-11 LCO has been working with the Barnardo’s special needs schools Meadows and High Close, Tonbridge Grammar School, Bradfield College and Theale Green Community School. The young people involved worked with LCO musicians and Tim Steiner to learn new skills and to devise a piece using improvisation techniques. They then performed with LCO at London’s Cadogan Hall and at community concerts in Tonbridge and Reading.
