LCO - London Chamber Orchestra

LCO branded 'The Smiling Orchestra'

Following a recent article in The Times newspaper (08/11/05) about orchestras looking so glum when they perform, LCO have received numerous calls and emails from fans furious with the implication that ALL orchestras are gloomy. Not so the London Chamber Orchestra they say!

Thank you to all those who wrote to us and to the Editor of The Times. Here is what Mr Alan Boyd had to say on the matter; his letter was published in The Times on Saturday, 12 November.

Sir ,

I refer to your leading article 'Orchestral Manoeuvres' on 9th November, concerning miserable looking musicians.

May I point out that the London Chamber Orchestra is well known amongst concert-goers as the 'smiling orchestra' . It is truly a great joy to watch them perform. The concertmaster,  Rosemary Furniss, leads not only with her violin but also with a big smile!! The principal conductor , Christopher Warren - Green , also  has a smile !!

If you want to be happy, watch the LCO,

Yours faithfully,

Alan BOYD
