LCO plays at Classical BRIT Awards for the first time

On Thursday 3rd May,The London Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Music Director and Principal Conductor Christopher Warren-Green, performed at the Classical BRIT Awards. HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, the patron of the London Chamber Orchestra, also attended the event for the first time. 

The Classical BRIT Awards 2007 took place at The Royal Albert Hall the show will be broadcast on ITV1 on Sunday 13 May at 11pm and repeated on Sunday 20 May at 8pm.

The evening include a celebration of British music and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Edward Elgar. The LCO performed works by Elgar, Beethoven, Puccini, Johann Strauss, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi among other composers, with artists including the young choral quartet All Angels, Chinese pianist Lang Lang, American violinist Joshua Bell, Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez, soprano Natasha Marsh, mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins, tenor Alfie Boe and the Fron Male Voice Choir. Vernon Handley made a guest appearance conducting the LCO with Natalie Clein as soloist in Elgar’s Cello Concerto and was awarded the Classical BRIT 'Lifetime Achievement Award' by LCO's Patron, The Duchess of Cornwall.

The Classical BRIT Awards were established in 2000 to recognise the outstanding achievements of classical musicians and the growth of classical music sales in the UK. The awards have proved their vital importance to the UK music industry with the huge impact the event has on record sales of those artists performing, winning and nominated.
